Luke, the farmer

A chef by trade, Luke has always had a passion for creating delicious food and had a very keen interest in farming, having grown up around sheep farms. Early on in his career he realised the gap between farmer and consumer was huge. Being able cook with home-grown produce has reignited this passion and given Luke the vision for developing an on-farm butcher and boning room which would help to build the connection between regenerative farmers and consumers in our local region and he hopes that in turn this will build community connection and give farmers in our local area a sense of pride and appreciation by our local community.

SUSTAINABLE. REGENERATIVE. ETHICAL

Luke is always researching and learning from other knowledgeable farmers when it comes to the most sustainable and regenerative farming techniques. He has really enjoyed experimenting with mixed farming; however, since we grew and processed our first batch of meat chickens, he wants to put all his energy into these birds because there is such a need for ethically and nutritionally grown and processed chicken in Australia.

Our farm is home to many animals, and we aim to give them the best possible life.

Our residents include sheep, cows, pigs, ducks, meat chickens and of course our meat chickens.
Our cows
We have a mix of Speckle Park, Brahman and Nguni cattle.
Nguni cows originated in South Africa, and they are well suited to the harsh conditions of our region. Due to their adaptability, tick resilience and requiring less feed compared to other breeds, they are perfectly suited to our environment.
So far we have been very impressed with how this breed has faired on our farm and have welcomed seven new calves this year.
Our sheep
Our dorper flock has grown over the past few years. We have twenty breeding ewe's who have blessed us with many beautiful little lambs. We often get twins, which is a sign they are healthy and happy.
They are particularly susceptible to worms which is why they are moved regularly to fresh pastures, which assists with worm management.
We have been very impressed with the quality of our lamb, and our customers agree!
Our Pigs

Our pigs are amazing creatures that thrive in their natural environment with room to move and explore. They enjoy weekly moves to fresh pasture.

We are proud of the quality of pork produced on Golden Hill Farm and our customers keep coming back for more!

TINY AWAY

We were lucky enough to team with Tiny Away and have a tiny home put on our farm.
